It's not bad, it's just not good. I saw this when I was a child and remember it being mostly funny. While it does hold up well enough over 30 years later it doesn't quite land the same way as an adult. Mostly, Maurice (Mandel) is far too loud and annoying that it makes me feel bad that Fred Savage needs to act to be friends with him. A hard job. All in all, it's what I would expect from a 1989 borderline PG/PG-13 kids horror-comedy. |
